It's an absolute honor to introduce our team. Each and every single person you see below goes not only willingly, but enthusiastically, into the trenches no matter how hot, how early, how remote, how exhausting, or how covered they may get by urine, feces, tics and fleas. Baja Mobile SteriVet's mission relies on this level of passion. Together we are making BIG and positive changes on the Baja peninsula.
DIRECTOR Gabriella started working in dog rescue and quickly saw how critical high volume sterilization clinics are, not only in Mulegé where she lives, but on the whole peninsula. She is passionate about creating a strong network of mobile spay & neuter clinics and isn't afraid of dreaming big, or of asking others for help. She brings a science-based approach to the overpopulation crisis, learning from models working around the globe. Recently retired and living full time in Baja, she is laser focused on creating solutions that will work on this beautiful peninsula not just now, but for the future as well.
ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR Lara is a dynamic professional with a diverse background encompassing medicine, entrepreneurship, and a passion for animal welfare. Her adventures have taken her to remarkable places, including Rwanda, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, where she learned about the importance of communities working together.
Based in Cabo, Lara has immersed herself in high-volume sterilization clinics. Supervising in the recovery room, she ensures the well-being of the animals and plays a crucial role in developing protocols and training new volunteers.
RECOVERY CENTER DIRECTOR Recently retired from a career in teaching and empowering others, Andrew brings his talents and kindness to each of our clinics. He's an invaluable member of our team, traveling to every campaign, and enlisting the help of the community along the way. Andrew is the director of recovery, ensuring we apply practices that keep our patients and volunteers safe. In his many years of traveling to Baja, he has seen the necessity of high volume spaying & neutering campaigns. As such, he's delighted to be a part of Baja Mobile SteriVet, and thus a big part of the solution.
CLINIC ADVISOR Since 2014 Deb has been a volunteer at Animalandia, a nonprofit organization based in Loreto with a focus on low-cost spay and neutering clinics. The organization has sterilized over 10,000 dogs and cats and Deb has volunteered at 40 of their clinics. In her 10 years at Animalandia she has seen first hand how well targeted sterilization campaigns can improve a community. It's because of this that she wholeheartedly supports the mission of Baja Mobile SteriVet. We also greatly appreciate her perspective and steadfast commitment to making Baja a kinder place for dogs and cats here.
SURGICAL ADVISOR In 2019, Dr Ericksen graduated from Universidad Autónoma de BCS (UABCS) and has been absolutely focused on sterilization of dogs and cats since. He has personally spayed and neutered over 30,000 animals and has supervised over 100,000 sterilizations. In this time, he's been able to refine his techniques greatly, making him a world class surgeon. Dr Ericksen has guided and trained many others and is always willing to teach his specialized techniques. Dr Ericksen has worked with several organizations and his travels have led him from his home area of Los Cabos, up to Guerrero Negro, and many places in between. He and his team have refined their protocol and can now access even the most remote communities, allowing access to safe sterilizations to all.
SURGICAL ADVISOR
SURGICAL ADVISOR Originally from La Paz, Baja California Sur, Dr Jesús Cristóbal Cosío Parra completed his studies at the Universidad Autónoma de BCS (UABCS). He entered the health sector in the zoonosis program carrying out sterilizations in San José del Cabo and San Lucas with Dr Ericksen Becerra. During this time, they've managed to bring sterilization to the entire northern part of the state from Guerrero Negro, to Mulegé, Loreto, Constitución, and La Paz. He has worked with different associations and foundations carrying out sterilization campaigns contributing to the control of canine and feline populations. He currently performs surgeries throughout the East Cape area for SNAP
MEDICAL ADVISOR After retiring Rick started volunteering in 2018 at the Berkeley Humane in Berkeley, California, USA, where he worked in the shelter hospital assisting with the medical staff with rescue intake and sterizilation program. So began Rick’s love for veterinary shelter medicine. In 2021 he and his partner moved to Los Cabos as full-time residents. Since then, he has been leading the recovery teams at large sterilization clinics for several animal welfare organizations, such Casa Sheila Pet Welfare and Pet Los Cabos.
MEDICAL ADVISOR & COMMUNITY LIAISON Rene's long life dream was to become a wildlife veterinarian. He attended the University of California San Diego, but it wasn't until 2020 that he followed his passion and graduated as a Vet Tech. Not only does Rene bring his medical skills to our team, but also fluency in both English and Spanish. His mission with Baja Mobile SteriVet is to educate others on how being a responsible domestic animal owner goes hand in hand with the overall health of a community, fauna, and flora.
MEDICAL ADVISOR When Dra. Lana Wilder, neuropsychologist licensed in US, Canada and Mexico moved to Los Cabos in 2022 with her husband, Chris, she decided to combine her health care experience with her love of animals by volunteering on Dr. Ericksen’s sterilization campaign team. A nearly life-long vegetarian, her passion is animal welfare and animal rights. She administers medications and rabies vaccines to the dogs and cats at weekly clinics, helps with post-surgical recovery, and assists in recruiting volunteers to work and pet “parents” to bring their babies in for surgery.
HIGH-VOLUME STERILIZATION CAMPAIGN ADVISOR A move to Mexico in '05 prompted her initial work with animal welfare and she hasn't stopped since! After the sudden death of her friend & mentor Sheila Marshall, she became the director for Casa Sheila. During the pandemic things became so dire for locals and animals in San Jose del Cabo, that she knew she had to take action. She ran their very first clinic in an old church with dirt floors and operated on 250. Since then she's been unstoppable, organizing 10 monthly clinics per year and operating on around 300 each time.
HIGH-VOLUME STERILIZATION CAMPAIGN ADVISOR When it comes to High Quality High Volume Spay & Neuter clinics, you're not going to find many with as much experience. Aida and her husband Evaristo have been involved in animal welfare since 2005, starting PET Los Cabos in 2017 with a laser focus on spaying, neutering, and education. Their dedication has yielded impressive results with over 26k sterilizations clocked since 2017 (and over 1.3k adoptions to boot). In 2021 they opened Second Chance Ranch, a beautiful foster home for dogs, cats, and even horses and donkeys.
HIGH-VOLUME STERILIZATION CAMPAIGN ADVISOR Melanie's passion for animal welfare and sterilization shines through each time we speak on the topic. She and her husband landed in San Felipe during the pandemic and fell in love with it. In that time she's helped grow a strong community, united in maximizing resources to create as grand of a change as possible for dogs and cats there. Working closely with San Felipe Dog Rescue and SNIP, Melanie has helped greatly increase their efforts and in this last year alone, they sterilized over 1,500 animals!
SOCIAL MEDIA & OUTREACH Jenn is a flip-flops on the ground activist who brings creativity to any project. From being the Director for Cortez Rescue & Outreach for 6 years, to assisting with the SNAP clinics in Los Barriles, to thinking outside the box to get as many animals sterilized as possible with a very successful raffle initiative which finally brought in many owners who had previously not come. Jenn is also a dynamo with social media, marketing, promotional work, and outreach.
TRAVEL LOGISTICS ADVISOR Sergio's love and dedication to animals is in a league all its own. As one of the founders of Cortez Outreach of Cortez Rescue, his focus has been largely on the most vulnerable street dogs, particularly females with puppies. Sergio is also the driver of Cortez Rescue's Vanimal, regularly transporting dogs from southern Baja to Tijuana. In that time, he has learned about our peninsula and seen where the need is highest. He's a vital part of our team, helping us plan routes and connecting with each community.
COMMUNICATIONS ADVISOR Jen is a communications virtuoso and we are grateful to have her on the Baja Mobile SteriVet team. She's our go-to person when we have questions on how to navigate tricky situations because her approach is based in compassion, optimism, and kindness. Jen is an animal lover, life and health coach, avid traveler, charitable worker, and she leaves each place she enters more beautiful, fun, and vibrant than when she entered.
